DISNEY’S BOOST FOR 3D PRINTING

Touted as ‘one to look out for’ in 2012, there have been relatively few examples of brands using 3D printing to date. It’s still early days of course, but kudos to Disney who have seen a brilliant opportunity in putting the tech to pretty cool use.

Over in Florida, they’ve created D-Tech Me, a smart new personalised product line which, true to the brand, aims to make the wishes of 3-12 year old children come true. By generating an on-screen 3D computer model of a child’s face, they’ve been able to set 3D printers to work building a real 7-inch model of the child, so that they can become their favourite Disney character. It’ll set parents back $99 for the pleasure, with Disney ensuring a return on their investment – but this is just the start of an exciting future for 3D printing, where the potential seem endless. Exciting stuff.
