Filmhack Captures the Imagination

Last week the agency was abuzz once again, as the latest in our hack event series took centre stage. A continuation from the hugely successful Game5hack which saw 5 computer games made in 36 hours,#Filmhack combined a mixture of talents into six teams to conceive, create, produce and edit a themed short film using just a smartphone, a zoombox and FinalCut Pro! M&C Saatchi’s partnerships with Google, YouTube, Goldsmiths and Motorola ensured a formidable skill base. (Trailer not available anymore.)

With no budget, the teams have now been tasked with their own promotion, and the winners will take home a £1,000 prize. Each of final vids can be viewed here. As part of the experiment, YouTube placed the final cuts as pre-roll trailers to untargeted UK YouTube viewers. This has so far achieved an astonishing 60k “true views” – people watching right to the end without skipping to their video. YouTube say that significantly outperforms regular ads, going some way to showing the power of great content. And the speed with which it can be created. Awesome.
