Team Talk, with Liza Angress

Liza Angress, Manager, Talent Experience is based in Los Angeles and works alongside the M&C Saatchi Performance team in the USA to help recruit new candidates. Here Liza describes what working for M&C Saatchi Performance is like, and what the team is looking for when recruiting new employees.

 

How long have you been working at M&C Saatchi Performance?

2 years, 8 months.

 

Describe your job.

I work with all the different teams across the agency. My main responsibilities are to find top talent as well as ensure the recruitment process runs smoothly. I help all the teams, from Search & Social, Media, Buying, Marketing, Operations, Global and Business Development, etc to find potential candidates. I set up the interview process, provide feedback and make offers. Once a candidate has been successful and has accepted the offer, I ensure that they have everything they need for their first day.

I also manage a lot of the internal agency culture/social activities and training for the USA, more on that later!

 

Talk us through your career path so far.

I started at M&C Saatchi Performance fresh out of college and have been here ever since, I always knew that I wanted to work in an agency (thanks to advertising courses at Boulder!). I started in an Operations role where I wore many hats from helping as an Executive Assistant through to IT, HR, Operations, and Events/Social duties. I moved into a role more focused on Talent Experience at the beginning of 2021. I love being able to tell candidates about our agency while maintaining current talent and being a large part of shaping the company culture into what it is!

 

What do you like about working here?

I love the people. Everyone is so inclusive and welcoming, it feels like I am working with my close friends. I love that everyone comes from different backgrounds and has their own skill sets and experiences. We’re a dedicated group of people who are absolute experts in their areas, there are plenty of opportunities for people to learn and grow and we have a lot of fun.

 

What is the best & worst piece of advice you have had in your career?

The best piece of advice I have had in my career is to always bite off more than I can chew. The worst piece of advice I have had in my career is to sit back and let things come to you.

 

What is your most memorable experience since starting work?

My most memorable moment was sailing out on a yacht for our Summer 2019 Party, well before COVID. We had the teams from LA and San Francisco together in Marina Del Rey and we spent the afternoon in the summer sun.

 

Tell us why M&C Saatchi Performance is a great place to work

Before COVID we had regular social events in the different offices. We’ve managed to carry that on online and we have a couple of social clubs happening at the moment. For example, we have a book club, a cookery club, and every couple of months we get everyone together as an agency to spend time with each other. We’ve made pasta together, celebrated St Patrick’s Day, and made cookies. As of the start of September, our LA office is reopening and we will be starting to go back into the office gradually while following CDC recommendations.

 

Do you have any advice for potential candidates?

Do your homework and be prepared for your interviews, have examples to hand with work that you have been responsible for. Be yourself!
