Desktop ad banners: as effective as they can be, they constantly cry out for fresh creativity. Sometimes clever tech is the creativity itself. And that’s what we love about this latest effort, over in Japan.

Offering the user a direct experience of the product, the desktop banner invites users to scan a QR code – a widely embraced exercise in Japan – using their mobile. Upon doing so, users assume control of a large on-screen AR Drome toy, with the smartphone acting as a controller. Now that, is a seriously cool augmentation. Users can then fire at the website, to reveal the product’s website beneath.
